Toys!

One of Aiden’s favorites is his Stacking Train by Melissa and Doug. It is a cute traditional toy that is great for young minds! My son has a blast removing, arranging and replacing the blocks and cars. I love that this helps his problem solving and fine motor skills while building on his color and shape recognition.

This is a fabulous toy that will provide my child with entertainment for many stages of his life. The Melissa and Doug Stacking Train is available at www.outofthetoybox.com for $16.99!

We love Melissa & Doug toys, and have lots of them!

blah..

It has been a good week. I found some great sale clothes for Aiden while we were out and about this weekend. Made plans to go to the zoo but the weather intervened. We’ve had lots of rain and thunderstorms.

Also got some clothes for Stephen… on sale, of course. I’m working on my fall wordrobe. I’ve been consigning a lot of things recently and have just been using my credit from that. It feels like free clothes! haha! I love the disturbing ability to rationalize the cost of clothes, purses and shoes. :)

Aiden is trying his hardest to walk! Without hesitation, he will let go of whatever he is holding, turn around and take a few steps… then fall down and smile because he’s proud of himself! It is so cute.

This is not the blog I had planned and been working on. The other needs a lot of thought and time to be well formed and as unoffensive as I can make it. I hope to get some more work done on it soon.

Chillin’ at the game

Last weekend Aiden got to hang at the softball tournament that his Aunt Lydia was playing. He had a blast seeing his 3 Aunts, 1 Uncle, Poppa and Nonnie Pam!

“It is a delightfully blustery day”- said Pooh

{April 10, 2008}
Aiden is lying asleep on the sofa next to me with a full tummy, so I suppose I should write something. I’m new to blogging so we’ll see how this goes.

What began as a perfectly normal blustery day last week, turned into a day full of surprises.

Getting dressed Thursday morning, I thought how pretty the weather was; sunny, warm and breezy. Stephen and I tag-teamed Aiden, dressing and changing him for a trip to Sam’s Club. We drove through the bank, made a quick stop at McDonald’s for coffee and breakfast then headed in the general direction of Sam’s. The weather was so beautiful that there was a giant tent sale in the parking lot.

We loaded Aiden into his backpack carrier, returned a few articles of clothing, grabbed an icee and began roaming the aisles. After picking up some bacon and tasting some samples, we were perusing the cheese coolers when the electricity seemed to glitch. The lights clicked off and on several times before deciding to remain off. Management then began to herd customers to the center of the building. We watched as rain and hail poured through several open skylights, and listened to the pounding of the golf ball sized hail on the tin roof. Aiden was slightly put out by the semi-darkness in the store, but behaved wonderfully during the whole ordeal.

On the drive home we discovered that several tornadoes had ripped through the area; trees were across the highway and interstate, traffic lights were down and gas station canopies collapsed onto parked cars. Some people are still without electricity. We arrived home thankful to find that our neighborhood was only affected by the rain. Even our car didn’t sustain any damage from the hail.

So that was my excitement for last week. This week is proving less eventful so far, but we will see. :)

I’m late, I’m late for a very important date!

Not really… Just finding myself pressed for time to gather and organize photos and supplies for Monday and Tuesday’s scrapbook session. I tried for four days to sit at my laptop and choose photos to upload and print. Did I get it done? No. Why? Aiden. Err.

No, I’m not “hatin’” on my child, I’m just occasionally put out that he is such a  mamma’s boy at this age. I typically can’t sit down for more than 2-3 minutes before he’s tugging at me to hold him, play with him, etc. I can’t even sit on the toilet for 20 seconds most days- in a flash he’s at my toes, ankles and then the toilet paper roll. Ah!

Stupid, why don’t I get a play pen? I have one. Then use it! Hm, no. I don’t mind using it occasionally when absolutely necessary, like when I’m mopping or using cleaners in places he can reach. But I can’t stand to put him in it any more than that, I feel it is cruel to use it as an every day escape for mom when baby should be learning by exploring freely, not screaming to be let out of a cage.

Have you guessed that I’m claustrophobic yet? Yep, just a little. But that doesn’t have much to do with not using a play pen. I believe that babies should learn the appropriate physical boundaries with familiar inanimate objects very early in life. How are they supposed to learn what is fun to play with, which chairs to pull up on and that an oven gets hot if they are constantly thrown into a prison of navy mesh and stuffed animals? Er duhhh, they don’t. They don’t because the second they pull a book off the shelf or drool in the dvd player it’s off to the play pen!

So, why did I buy a playpen? I didn’t. Huh? It was a gift. I truly appreciate it too, I am just reeeally disturbed by the amount of overuse and abuse of many different types of baby gear and technology.

That is my rant for today… It took me all day to write this tiny piece of a blog, but I don’t care. Not too much. I am occasionally annoyed at the amount of time things take, or that I have to schedule things for a babysitter, but I am always more ecstatic that my baby is exploring his world and loves his mamma… and hopefully won’t have an abandonment complex after all my ranting! ;)

Oh yes, during my many breaks, naps, feedings, cleaning, cooking, exploring and blogging sessions I got my photos printed. Yes!

Goodbye!

Hi ho, hi ho

So today I feel like I accomplished a lot of things. And by things, I mean the ever-present, recurring and boring day to day things. Things like washing two baskets of dirty clothes that turn into five or more loads because of the color, content and weave of the fabric they are made of. Or mashing half a dozen cooked baby carrots for Aiden that will disappear in two days…

I also watered all of my potted plants, which of course, will have to be done again tomorrow. I washed and put away my new set of dishes that Stephen gave me for Mothers Day, and packed away some old ones. I swept and vacuumed every room. Didn’t get around to scrubbing the bathrooms… I managed to schedule a jewelry party at my home for a friend who is just starting her business. Began my list of things needed for our trip to Orlando. Cooked lunch AND supper. Got our new car. (okay, technically that was Stephen…) Worked on cleaning the old car to sell.

There is still a basket of laundry to be folded and put away, although half of them won’t make it to the dresser before they are worn again. So hi ho, hi ho.
